Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all well and looking forward to the Long Weekend.

Our preseason trainings are coming to a close with only one more week before the games start.

Be sure that you are registered before the first game.

In addition, this weekend, Sunday, is the start of Daylight Savings Time.

Please be sure to set your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed Saturday night.

Weekday trainings will be extended due to additional daylight.

Be sure to check these extended training times with your coach.

U11 & U14 PLAYERS WANTED

If you know of anyone who may want to play baseball with either our U11 or our U14 team this season, please let them know we are looking for additional players to fill these teams.

We have nominated two x U11 (Minor League) teams this season, but, at the moment, we have too many for one team, but lacking numbers for a full second team.

We only have 15 players now…Contact Matt Burns.

Same with our U14/U15 squad. Still looking…appreciate your thoughts.

Contact Greg Rodgers or myself (Bob)

There are NO automatic outs in Junior or Women’s Div 2 Baseball.

Rule 3.2.8 (page 6)

CANTEEN WORKER/S WANTED

We are still looking for a person or persons willing to work the canteen during our home games.

Teams will be rostered for all Home Games, but will need help when the Sunday Seniors are Home and Friday evenings (T-Ball)

If you have worked in hospitality or done work in a school canteen, this is for you.

Or if you just want to help out, please don’t be bashful.

If you can commit to helping somewhat this season, please let Anne know to work out what works best for you.

She can be contacted at secretary@ggcdbaseball.com.au or see her in the canteen.

ARMCHAIR UMP: YOU MAKE THE CALL:

Situation: The batter smashes a hot ground ball to the first baseman who is able to get a glove on the ball and knock it down.

He has trouble picking up the ball, but manages to grab it with his bare hand.

He dives to tag the base. He tags the base with an empty glove as he holds the ball in his bare hand. IS THE RUNNER OUT?

(Answer below)

FIXTURES

All Senior fixtures have been posted on the Baseball SA website (COMPETITIONS).

The Women’s Div 1 fixtures are there, also, along with the Junior League.

All other fixtures will be posted after the Long Weekend.

FIELD MAINTENANCE – STILL TO BE DONE

Our Home Run Fence has gone up for the season. The council did a good job putting it all together.

The grounds will be scarified by the Council next Tuesday and then, it’s just ticking the boxes of what’s left to be done.

With only a little more than a week before our first game of the season, the diamonds need some finishing touches.

Gavin, our grounds guru, needs more help to finish off our goal for having the best grounds in the league.

The list is long, but firstly, the cut outs on both diamonds need to be topped up.

Lots of dirt to be moved.

Gavin had some top dressing delivered by the Council to top dress the low spots left by the scarifying.

We have the shovels ready to go.

The top mound needs finishing, visitors mound needs completing, some of our fencing needs lacing back together and the Lines need marking.

Plus a lot of other finishing touches.

He will be out there Tuesday all day and probably every day after that from 4:30pm.

If you can lend a hand, he will appreciate it.

After all, it is the ground that we all play on! Take possession! Show up and help out.

MONDAY MASTERS COMP PROPOSED

Henley & Grange, Glenelg and Southern Districts are the Clubs who have nominated a team. There is room for another team and it can be made up of players from different clubs.

The season will be 9 games into October, November and December with a Gala Grand Final event on Dec 21st.

If anyone is interested, please make it known to Shottie or Rowena at the League office. ASAP

there are equipment and operational start-up expenses to be met -and with very little cash flow.

It is a very important part of our Club’s viability and an investment in our future -and the community!

If you have a lead or need further information, please contact me (Bob) by email, PM or mobile.

After our Seniors training sessions, the meals will available.

ARMCHAIR UMP: DID YOU MAKE THE RIGHT CALL?

Answer: the batter runner is OUT!

As long as the fielder has secure possession of the ball,

he may tag the base with any part of his body or glove (a force out)!
