Hi Everyone,

What a great night we all had during Tuesday’s Div 1 Twilight game v Goodwood!
Even the bloody rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of all those who turned out to cheer on the Home Team.

It was great to see so many of our Sponsors, Life Members and past players come out and catch up.
Also, Sarah Kelly, General Manager of Baseball SA came out too to join us for the festivities.
It was so good to see all who attended catching up and talking baseball.

A big Shout Out to SpaceQuake for coming out to televise the game and promoting our sponsors. They streamed it live on You Tube.
They used three cameras during the game including one from their drone! A great production.

Michael Dunn and Eric Banal did another great job of commentating the game for the TV audience.
James Harrison, from the Plaza Hotel and Pickled Duck (one of our Major Sponsors) was also a commentator during the early part of the game. First time out, he did a great job!

Also, our Chair, Shaun Evans, did some commentating a few innings later in the game providing ‘colour’ to the game with comments about the club. A fun time.

FYI – SpaceQuake do about six telecasts a week and stream games live for various sports: Baseball, Ice Hockey, Softball and Lawn Bowls to name a few.
Baseball telecasts are shown at a later date on our community Channel 44.

You can re-visit our game anytime on You Tube using this link: https://youtu.be/Y_H9fhLWfDg

Many thanks to our Directors: Gavin, Liv and Andy for putting on a good show for us.
Gav for making the grounds look the best in the league – great job!
Liv for purchasing and putting together all the many raffle prizes, hosting the catering and keeping the food coming into our ‘Corporate Box’.
And last if not least, thanks to Andy for providing all the food and drink on the day with his small army of canteen and bar volunteers!
Well done to all.

I must comment on Gavin’s fine job on the grounds. He is one meticulous and hard-working member of our Club to say the least.
That day, with the assistance of our Chairperson, Shaun, they were out there from early in the day grooming the grounds with our volunteers:
John Diplock, Jamie Rix, Shane George and Ashton Diplock to name a few. (Forgive me if I missed someone, but had to leave a bit early for some dry clothes 😊)

It was a humungous job to prepare the grounds for play due to the rain that afternoon! ☹ there was contemplation that it might not go ahead!
Even with the tarps put out over all the cut outs soon after the rain started, it was super hard work to make the grounds playable in time for play!

And not to forget, a big thank you to all our members who pitched in to set up the marquis, chairs and tables! Much appreciated!
It makes one feel so good about our Club when members show up and just get stuck into getting the job done!

Tyler Green, our 15/1 – Junior League – player, threw out the first pitch of the game in honour of his dad (from a very young age),
Colin (‘Col’) Ashworth who left us last year after four years of battling cancer.

The whole Ashworth family was there to see Tyler throw out the first pitch in honour of his dad!
Something I sure he will remember for a long time.

The game got started with some excitement by Jake Campbell early in the game. With bases loaded with two outs and 5 nil down, he came up to bat.
He didn’t disappoint! – he hit a triple driving in three runs, then scoring on a passed ball to bring the score up to 5-4. Wowee!

After that, the Indians took over and won the game 16-4. Never-the-less, it was a great night for all who attended.
Lots of members, lots of players: seniors, women and juniors too. A sea of blue showing their support to our team – win or lose.

Thanks again to all of our helpful members volunteering their time for making the night a great success.
The work you all did was truly amazing and the Board can’t thank you enough. Cheers!

ARMCHAIR UMP – YOU MAKE THE CALL
Situation: Two outs, the runner on Third base is hit by a fair, batted ball near the base (while standing on the line, hence, in fair territory).
The umpire properly declares the runner out for interference. Since this is the third out, the batter never reached first base.

Question: Does the batter get to bat again to lead off the next inning?

MISSING – The orange conduit keys
In our Equipment Shed, we had a piece of orange conduit about 150mm long with a key ring and three keys on it.
It was hung above the light switch for all to use for access to the tunnels and change rooms.

It has gone missing and has been gone for some time – before the Christmas break!
This is one more time asking if anyone may unknowingly have it in their kit bag.

Please have a good look and if you find them, please return it first chance you get.
Thank you.

DID YOU KNOW?
A regulation baseball has 108 stitches! (for the youngsters to know 😊)

Team photo days and times to be announced.

We are using a different photographic company this season (Sports in Focus) as our usual photographers are not available.
More information is forthcoming as we work our way through the process.

ARMCHAIR UMP – DID YOU MAKE THE RIGHT CALL?
For scoring purposes, the batter is credited with a safe, base hit and – he does not bat again to lead off the next inning. (FYI – RUNNERS – do NOT stand on the third base line when leading off – stand well into the dirt or foul territory!)

TIP OF THE WEEK FOR PLAYING SUMMER SPORT – KEEP HYDRATED!

Keeping well hydrated today….

Have a great weekend.
Cheers,
Bob
