Hi Everyone,

We are, finally, off and running doing what we like to do! – play baseball!

It was a glorious day for the start of our season and a busy time at the bar and canteen.

Our Sunday Seniors, Div 1, 2 and 3, will play Away this weekend at Henley & Grange.

It is our Div 1s ‘Season Opener’ after having a BYE last Sunday. Good luck, fellas!

This weekend at Home will see three Senior teams play on Saturday and five Junior teams play on Sunday.

Below is the Canteen Roster for the weekend:

Our U14s, 13/2 Dodgers and both U11 are Home too.

ARMCHAIR UMPIRE – YOU MAKE THE CALL

Situation: Two strikes on the batter. He swings at the next pitch and tips the ball…

The ball goes directly onto the catcher’s chest protector… bounces off his chest…and is caught in his mitt.

IS THE BATTER OUT? (answer below).

T-BALL SEASON IS COMNG SOON (YIKES!)

Our T-Ball Preseason/Come n Try Sessions kick off next Monday, 19 October from 6-7pm

and another one-hour session on the following Friday. Our first game is Friday, 30 October.

From 5pm on these days, we will set up four stations on the Main Diamond area for each age group:

U8 and U10. Hitting (using whiffle balls), Throwing (to targets), Fielding (rolling the ball to one another) and

Base running (so they know how to run from first to third and, then, Home😊).

I am asking for help on each of these days from 5pm-ish to set up the stations.

Also, during the sessions, I am looking for at least one past/present player to be at each of the stations for proper instruction and safety – especially at the hitting stations.

More players per station would be helpful and more fun – only asking for a minimum of 8 players. Can you do this?

We are also looking for T-Ball Coaches, so if your son or daughter wants to play, please come forward.

So, if you want to assist, please see me around 5pm-ish on the day…or let me know ahead of time. 😊

We, also, need a coordinator for uniforms and taking names (to later put the kids into teams).

We’re investing in the future of the Club.

Please let me know if you’re available.

Cheers, Bob

NEW WEBSITE COMING

We are about to launch our new web page and our web designer, Dave Coleman (ex-Div 3 Coach and player), has asked for ‘head shots’ of all our Coaches.

Many thanks to Joel Mazurek for providing his services to our website over the many past years.

Our photographers, Kathi and Ian Manson, will be on site Sunday, 25 October from 12Noon until 2pm to take all our Coaches individual photos.

All you need is to be in your uniform top with your hat.

They will, also, be taking individual photos of our Div 1, 2 and 3 players to be posted in our clubroom.

It will only take 30 seconds to take your photo, so please, don’t miss out.

DIAMOND CARE

Our Groundsman, Gavin Payne, was happy with the way the diamonds and dugouts were left after the games were left over the weekend. Well done!

He has put together a Game Day Guide in relation to Pre-Game, Post Game and Last Game expectations/requirements of things to be done along with the diamond sizes for all age groups.

It is located in the dugouts and placed on the side of the helmet shelving.

Please assist your Coach in fulfilling these requirements. It’s easy when everyone chips in!

BTW – Gavin is out working the grounds most afternoons from 5pm. If you have some time, why not join him.

He will get home earlier and his family will like that 😊

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS (WWCC)

Please remember that all coaches, assistant coaches, scorers, team managers, umpires and volunteers will require a Working With Children Check – if they are assisting with children under 18.

This is a Baseball SA requirement. They are FREE due to being processed through our Club.

Please email your contact details to our Secretary, Anne, at secretary@ggcdbaseball.com.au to have yours activated.

An easy task – and good for three years.

BUNNINGS BBQ DATES x 2

Modbury Bunnings has offered us another 2 x BBQs which will be held on Sunday, 29th of November and Saturday, 12th of December.

We are looking for helpers for both of these days. We need to have five persons on site during the day – a COVID thing.

Time slots once again being:

‪8:30-11:30am – ‪11:30am-2pm – ‪2pm to 4:30ish finish.

Please contact Mia, our Fundraising and Social Director, if you are able to help on either of those days!

She can be contacted via PM (FB thing).

THURSDAY – CLUB NIGHT MEALS

Thursday nights see many of our Senior players train and it’s Selection night for their teams.

We will, again, be doing Club meals each Thursday provided and served by an allocated Senior team. (see roster below)

Each week meals will be set at $5 unless we do a special meal night like AB’s which would be more.

The meal is set and all the ingredients will be provided by the club. Easy peasy.

The 5 set meals that we will be rotating through each week include chicken burgers, steak and onion rolls,

pizza, 1/4 chicken and chicken wraps – all served with chips.

Our first team up this Thursday is the Div 6 team offering Chicken Burgers and chips.

Next Thursday the Div 4 GGCD (Matt’s) team will be cooking Steak and Onion rolls with chips.

Even if you are not training, you are, of course, welcome to come along and enjoy a meal or get it as a takeaway for just $5!

SPONSORSHIP

We do not have a magic sales team out there in the Metropolitan area banging on doors for our Club’s Community support.

We depend on you, the members, to come up with leads to follow up.

We are still looking for more sponsors for this season.

If you are talking with someone about sponsorship and they seem interested, please let me know to follow up.

Our sponsorship packages are listed below.

HOUSEKEEPING NOTE

Please remember to put your name or initials on your gear – hat, water bottle, mitt, batting gloves.

It makes it easier to find the owner 😊

ARMCHAIR UMPIRE – DID YOU MAKE THE RIGHT CALL?

FOUL TIP: The batter in NOT out. It’s a foul ball,

to be a legal catch, the ball must first touch his glove hand.

TIP FOR THE DAY….Watch your pitch count!

In the Bleachers

Be safe out there…

Have a great week.

Cheers,

Bob
