Hi Everyone,

Welcome to our new Club members joining us this season. We hope you enjoy reading our weekly newsletter.

Baseball is heating up! Not only do our Div 1s play their first Home game this weekend, but the World Series has commenced as well.

Our Div 1’s season opener at Home is against Adelaide from 3pm while the LA Dodgers take on the Tampa Rays in their Fall Classic. GO DODGERS!

Sunday is another Big day at Dodger Town with not only all our Sunday Seniors playing on our Main Diamond, but we have five of our Junior teams playing on the top Diamond.

A big Hot Dog Day!

Come out and cheer on the Home Teams!

Below is the Canteen Roster for this weekend:

BTW – We are looking for some Canteen assistance from our members for this Sunday arvo.

Our chair, Mark Shotton, is be looking for someone to help him on the day.

ARMCHAIR UMPIRE – YOU MAKE THE CALL

Situation: The batter squares around to bunt on the first pitch.

He gets the bat on the ball, but his left foot is positioned in the middle of the plate when he contacts the ball.

The ball rolls foul.

WHAT’S YOUR CALL?

CANTEEN WORKER WANTED

Our Club is desparately looking for some one to work the Canteen on Friday evenings for T-Ball and Sunday’s Home games.

While teams are rostered to assist with the canteen work, we need someone to oversee its operation – especially on Sunday arvos when the Sunday Seniors are at home.

If you are interested and want further information, please contact our Administration Director & Secretary, Anne Christensen (0417 844 469) or

In House Operations Director, Steve Conry (0407 976 146).

They may give you an offer you can’t refuse 😊

DODGER’S HALLOWEEN PARTY TIME

Our Annual Gala Halloween Partry is Saturday, 31 October, from 6pm.

A SPOOKY FIESTA of fun for all ages!

The bar will be open to get in touch with the spirits! 😊

Don’t be ghoulish and make the grave mistake to miss this party!

GROUNDS NEWS

Great job done last weekend by the Div 4 & 5 crew to get the Main diamond up to playing condition after the rain the night before.

The fantastic work was noted by League umpire Ron Kennelly on the BaseballSA score sheet. Well done, fellas!

We are again, expecting rain (10-20mm) on the way Friday, so the tarps need to go down Thursday after

training to ensure the diamonds are good for our games on the weekend.

Preseason saw over 500 hours of volunteer work on the grounds to make them what they are now.

We hope that you are finding the grounds good play on and train on! Good Diamond care will continue to ensure it.

With half of the team’s season played at home on our grounds, we hope that it gives our teams an advantage.

Please repair any damage from trainings and games as we go – a plea from Gavin, our Head Groundsman. 😊

MORE SPONSORS WANTED!

For people seeking sponsorship opportunities,

we have a community ready to support your business – our Club!

We depend on sponsors especially at the beginning of our season when

there are equipment and operational start-up expenses to be met -and with very little cash flow.

If you have a lead or need further information, please contact me

(Bob, GGCD Sponsorship Coordinator) by email, PM or mobile.

NEW WEBSITE PHOTOS to be taken

Our new web page is up and running, but still a bit under construction. So…

On this Sunday, 25 October from 12Noon until 2pm, we are taking portrait photos of all our Coaches and Sunday Senior players.

Our photographers, Kathi and Ian Manson, will be on site to take the photos. All that’s needed for the photo is for you to be in your uniform top with your hat.

In addition to the website photos, they will be taking individual photos of our Div 1, 2 and 3 players to be posted in our clubroom.

It will only take 30 seconds to take your photo, so please, don’t miss out.

RECYLE YOUR CANS AND BOTTLES PROPERLY

Please make an effort to recycle your cans and bottles in the appropriate bins and crates.

It is estimated that we could buy at least one box of baseballs with what is thrown away into the rubbish bins!

Please make the effort. Do the right thing for our environment.

DIAMOND CARE

Be sure to read the Game Day Diamond Care list of jobs to be done. It is attached to the side of the helmet shelf in each dugout.

It lists the pre-game and post-game duties as well as what is to be done after the last game of the day.

It’s there to ensure that everyone knows what all has to be done.

This job list is NOT for the coaches, but for the players and parents to allow the Coach to focus on his other tasks that he needs to do.

Make sure each dugout has a rubbish bin and a crate for recyclables.

At the end of the day, make sure the dugout is clean and empty the bins.

BE SURE TO STORE BASES STEM DOWN!

Otherwise water from rain or the sprinklers will rust them out. Thank you.

Ask to join our club’s FB page for a great way to keep in touch with up to date Club news.

Each team, also, has their own FB page.

Ask your Coach to join your team’s FB page and keep up to date with your team news.

TIP FOR THE DAY – When you are the best at what you do…

Hard work pays off! -Handsomely!

Dodger’s won the first World Series game 8-3 over the Rays. Clayton was the starting pitcher and Mookie hit a home run and doing some great base running stealing the bases.

Game 2 – Thursday, 22/10 – from 10:38am on Kayo or Foxtel.

ARM CHAIR UMPIRE – DID YOU MAKE THE RIGHT CALL?

Ruling: The batter is OUT for having his foot on the ground and entirely out of the batter’s box when he contacted the ball.

Fair or foul, does not matter.

TIP FOR THE WEEK – Let your bat do the talking – practice heaps with the ‘T’ and Iron Mike!

TALKING BAT

Have a good week and let your bat do some talkin’

Cheers,

Bob
