GOLDEN GROVE CENTRAL DISTRICTS BASEBALL CLUB e-NEWS

24 SEPTEMBER 2020 – Pre-season Edition 4

Our Club wishes to thank all our following sponsors for their support last season and hope they can come on board with us this season…

Please patronize our sponsors if you have a need for their services. Their patronage is greatly appreciated. See our website for more information

Hi Everyone,

Only a few more weeks until the season’s games start. First games are on 10 & 11 October.

This season we are fielding 8 x Senior teams, 3 x Women’s teams and 8 Junior teams!

However, we are really struggling for players in our U15 and U17 teams!

We do not want to disappoint our youth for not having a full team.

If you know of anyone wanting to give baseball a go, please let me (Bob) know – either PM, email or on 0402 068 738.

Or come out to our training sessions this weekend: U17s @ 2pm SATURDAY and U15s @ 3:30pm SUNDAY.

Additional GREEN SHIRT UMPIRE CLINIC

Saturday, 26 September, 10am at GGCD

Thanks to those who came out last time to the ‘practical’ part of the Community Umpire Accreditation Program.

It was good to see so many attend this 90 minute session.

This season, the Baseball League has asked each club to have at least 10 x accredited Club, baseball umpires.

We are half way there with thanks to those who participated a fortnight ago.

To become accredited, enrol and complete the online course by clicking on this link https://form.jotform.co/83568432579875

You will, then, receive an email to start your accreditation online by completing a quiz.

When you complete the 90 minute practical session on the 26th, you will be accredited.

Take the time, it’s that simple.

We pay our Club umpires $20/game and are given a cold beverage at the end of the game.

Ron Murphy is our Club’s Umpire Coordinator. Let him know if you have any questions.

You will not be assigned any games only those you may want to umpire when you’re available.

Thank you for supporting YOUR Club.

ARMCHAIR UMPIRE – YOU MAKE THE CALL

Situation: Runner on First, no outs.

The hit and run play is on as the runner takes off with the pitch.

The ball is hit to the second baseman.

The runner runs out of his baseline to avoid the fielder fielding the ball.

The second baseman throws to first to retire the batter runner.

Should the runner be called out for running around the second baseman? (see below)

The runner must avoid a fielder in the act of fielding a batted ball.

The runner established a new baseline to avoid the collision/obstruction.

He is NOT out for ‘illegally’ avoiding a tag.

TIP of the week: Practice, Practice, Practice…

In the Bleachers

Play hard, play well.

Bob
