Hi Everyone,

We trust you are all well and coping with the COVID-19 restrictions. Our baseball season is on the horizon and if all goes well, we will be back into it before too long.

Below is some information regarding our Club activities during this off season especially our AGM coming up next month.

SUNDAY SENIORS STARTING UP!

Our new Club coach, Darren Roberts, is expecting a big turnout this coming Sunday for our Div 1, 2 & 3s first Pre-season training session.

The pitchers and catchers have been out for the last two Sundays, but it all starts at 10am for the full squad.

He is expecting up to 30 players to come out to start getting in shape for the season. Guys: be RTG at 10am and DO NOT BE LATE (He hates that! 😊).

He will have some specialist coaches with him to share their expertise with our young guns and is looking forward to a successful season.

BUSY BEE WORK SESSION – SATURDAY, 1 AUGUST

We will be tidying up the diamonds cut-outs from our hard work and efforts done a few weeks ago. More supplies have been brought in to make it happen.

We will be levelling off the cut outs and straightening up the edges, where needed, with some instant turf. Some loam will be brought in to fill in the gaps.

We, now, have more ‘green bricks’ on hand to continue to work on the Main diamond’s pitcher’s mound. Thanks to Austral Bricks for their generosity once again.

The batting box area has been ‘bricked up’ (completed) and just needs raking and levelling off.

Lots of shovels are needed to spread the dirt and remove the grass patches in the cut-outs. Hope to see you there.

AGM – THURSDAY, 20 AUGUST 2020

Our AGM was announced last week on our Social Facebook page by our Chairman, Mark Shotton.

The Covid restrictions have allowed us to hold our AGM ‘in person’ in our Clubroom area from 7pm.

The Annual Report will be presented with all Board Member and Coaches Reports. Also, four Directors are up for election.

Please consider the following to join our Board.

DIRECTORS to be elected

The descriptions of their duties and ‘subcommittees’ are attached.

Each Directors term is for two years starting immediately after the AGM and terminating after their second AGM.

They are Directors of:

Baseball Operations,

In House Operations (Canteen & Bar)

Finance

Sponsorship and Grants

If you are interested, please submit your nomination to our Club Secretary, Anne Christensen at secretary@ggcdbaseball.com.au at least two weeks before the AGM.

We are keen to have more members involved this season with the subcommittees of the various portfolios.

They are not required to attend any Board Meetings. Please have a look to see where you can assist.

LIFE MEMBERS

The Board may recommend to the AGM that any natural person who has rendered distinguished service to the Club can be appointed as a Life Member.

If any Life Members are nominated and approved by the Board, they will be voted upon and confirmed with a 75% of those eligible voting members attending the AGM.

The nomination form is attached and must be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the AGM.

Finger food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. We hope to see you on the night.

Thanking you in advance for your continued support.

BUNNINGS BBQs – Volunteers needed

Bunnings has started up their Community Barbeques recently. They are only operating on Saturdays and Sundays at this time.

We are keen to apply for some dates before our season gets underway when volunteers will be hard to come by.

With Covid-19 still around, it comes with some restrictions. One being that they are now requiring 4 volunteers to be on hand at all times.

They are a Greeter (Supervisor), an Order taker, a Cook and a Server (Collector). The Collector puts the condiments on the sausage. Every 60 minutes everything must be cleaned with a sanitiser.

Many hands make light work and a BIG BONUS for the Club.

Contact Mia Taylor, our Director of Fundraising, on Facebook Messenger or email: mia.taylor@live.com.au if you can assist – morning or afternoon. It’s a bit of fun!

SAVE THE DATES:

DODGER BAR’ TO OPEN ON FRIDAYS from 28 August

JUNIORS PRE-SEASON TRAINING STARTS SUNDAY, 11 SEPTEMBER (the weekend after Father’s Day)

T-BALL – COME n TRYs: 19 & 23 October; First game 30 October

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

The MLB games started last weekend for a shorten season of only 60 games. The 30 teams will be playing in empty stadiums filled with fans of cardboard cut outs.

The Mets lost their game 14-1 and it was heard that the cut outs started leaving after the third inning. 😊

Have a great weekend!

Cheers,

Bob
