Hi Everyone,

Last weekend’s Season Launch was a huge success all around! A great day at the ball park, for sure!

Div 1s were playing a trial match with Kensy and the kids were having a Junior Home Run Derby on the top diamond. Champions are below.
What a fun day!

The weather was a perfect, sunny and warm Spring Day.
It was great to see the many familiar faces again that came out to enjoy the day.
Go Dodgers!

ARMCHAIR UMPIRE – YOU MAKE THE CALL!
Situation: One out; Runners on First and Third, on a 3-2 count, the batter swings and misses…
the pitch goes in the dirt and the catcher can’t find the ball.

Runner from third scores, Runner from first advances to third, and the batter goes to second.
What’s your call?

SCORING CLINICS – Every team needs a scorer!
Team selections have been made and now, it’s time to organise a scorer for your team!!!

But don’t panic! We have another scoring clinic next Tuesday, 5 October
from 7:30pm at the club.

Div 6 (Peter Moore’s team) is panicked as they are still looking for a scorer.
If you can help, please let him know at <mailto:glomoose5@gmail.com> glomoose5@gmail.com

This clinic will be for Beginner Scorers, but anyone is welcome if they want a refresher.
Feedback comments are always appreciated.

Please bring along a note pad, pencil, and an eraser 😊
See you there!

URGENT: GGCD ‘UMPIRE COORDINATOR’ REQUIRED!
This season, the League has TOLD each Club to appoint an Umpire Coordinator.
THIS IS A MUST! And we don’t have one yet!!!

If you are interested in this most important position, please contact
Kristen Webb, our Baseball Operations Director for more information.

She can be contacted by email: <mailto:kristen.webb3@gmail.com> kristen.webb3@gmail.com or
via FB Messenger. Please consider.

Because all Senior teams play on Saturdays, most BUASA (League) Umpires will be assigned to the upper grades.
Therefore, our lower State League Divisions, Women’s League and Junior Competition games must be done by Club Umpires.

The Umpire Coordinator (UC) duties entail assigning Club umpires to our games.
The UC will be advised as to what teams will be needing Club Umpires usually on a Wednesday evening and you assign them from there.

We have Club Umpires already on our list, we just need someone to Coordinate the process.
Please consider coming forward for this role of Club Umpire Coordinator.

Also, if you are interested in volunteering to umpire our Club games this season, please use the link below to register and find out more.

All our Club umpires are paid and given a cool refreshment after the game for volunteering. They receive $20 and a $10 Dodger voucher/card.

Please give it some thought to umpire our Club games.
There’s no game without an Umpire!

Make plans to stay after training -or just come around- for a meal and catch up with your mates.

CLUB SPONSORS NEEDED –
Sponsorship is a very important part of our Club’s viability to help sustain our Club
– especially early in our season when we do not have much of a cash flow for start-up expenses!

It’s up to ALL Club members (Yes, this means you 😊) to help think of
Companies, individuals or YOUR company that may be willing to support our community’s sport.

Our ‘selling point’ is that we have approximately 250 families involved with our Club plus their friends and neighbours.
We service the baseball community over three Council areas here in the Northeast.

Baseball is a fun, attractive and affordable sport for children of all ages and caters for both men and women too.
Contact me (Bob – Sponsorship Coordinator) or our Chair, Shaun, if you have a lead or need further information.

For only $440, you can get your company logo displayed on our website with a link to your business,
on our newsletter to 300 members and displayed above the canteen servery.

$1100 gets your banner on the Home Run Fence when the Div 1s play at Home in addition to all of the above and more!

Our sponsorship packages are below.

NEW DUGOUT BATTING HELMET UNITS INSTALLED!

WOW! We’re excited! How good is this!
Many thanks to Michell Nicholls (Div 2 WL player) and her hubby, Aaron, for providing and installing our new Batting Helmet shelving!

Aaron built them to last using marine grade plywood (water resistant) and Michelle
painted them over and over and over again to make them last even longer!

Michelle said that Aaron is quite the guy when it comes to tools.
She says that he has them all and of course, he would.

He works at Total Tools! next to Bunnings at Windsor Gardens.
So, if you need some tools, go see Aaron at Total Tools 😊

EQUIPMENT REPORT – from Gavin (Director of Equipment)
All the team equipment bags have been sorted and the equipment checked.
A list was made to replace aged and damaged equipment and by the time you read this, most of the new items should already be in the team bags.

We ask that teams and players take care of this equipment, so that the Club doesn’t need to replace items prematurely.
Each team has been allocated a locker in the newly refurbished, equipment shed.

Please be sure to replace your kit bag into your locker and not leave it on the floor to be pilfered.

Combination padlocks will be fitted to each locker shortly.
See Gavin for your combination – most combos are the same as coaches used last season.

GROUNDS REPORT – from Gavin (Director of House and Grounds)
The Council has marked the location of the sprinklers on both fields.
This is in preparation for contractors to come through for ‘oval maintenance’ (we believe scarification and top dressing).

The work, we are told, will be completed by next Friday, 8th October, so it could be as late as one day before the season starts!
IF so, this will require some help from members to return the grounds to a suitable playing condition!
Heads up!

Work continues behind the scenes with a small team of members working this Friday afternoon, 1 October, to stabilise the cut outs.
They will be tilling the added sand into the old mix and compacting.

If anyone can spare a hand, your help would be greatly appreciated.
The Home Run Fence to be put up next week – Monday, 5 October.

BASEBALL CHECKLIST
Do you have everything you need for the season? Below is a checklist for you.
Glove
Bat (Optional)
Cleats
Batting Gloves
Equipment Bag
Batting Helmet (Optional, but a good idea)
Pants
Sliding shorts
Athletic Cup/Box
Socks
Glove Conditioner
Belt
Sunscreen

T-BALL – COMING SOON…
If you and/or your young children’s mates are looking for Summer Fun, try T-Ball!

Be sure to tell them about our ‘Come n Try’ sessions on Monday, 18 October and
Friday, 22 October from 6-7pm at our grounds.

Games start on 29 October 2021. Save the dates.

NEXT EVENT – ‘PLAYERS AUCTION’ – FRIDAY, 8 OCTOBER!
Check our Members FB page for more info! SAVE THE DATE! A fun night!
Win your favourite player for the season at the Auction on the Friday night.

ARMCHAIR UMPIRE – DID YOU MAKE THE RIGHT CALL?
Answer: The ‘dropped third strike’ rule is not granted.
The batter is OUT on strike three with a runner on first and one out. The ball is dead, and all runners move up one base.
So, we have two out, one run in and runner on second.

TIP FOR THE SEASON: REMEMBER TO HAVE FUN!

THE FINAL SAY…
Daylight Savings starts on Sunday, October 3, 2:00 am – Spring your clocks forward one hour.
Stay safe and be sure to ‘Check In’.

Cheers,
Bob
